A Twelve Month Approach To Balance In working with Mind, Body, and Spirit, we want to approach our self-improvement journeys through choices or methods which allow us the flexibility to continually accomplish our goals throughout the year. Since the influences from our external environment will constantly change as the year goes on, we don’t want to lock ourselves into just utilizing one single approach since it may grow a bit stale over time. As with listening to the radio, our entire experience is more pleasurable if we have different formats from which to choose.
So, how can we utilize a Mind, Body, and Spirit approach to help us accomplish our self improvement goals and bring a sense of balance to our daily actions throughout the year? I like to use a simple approach by selecting twelve actions (one for each month of the year) which allow me to utilize my personal energy in a manner that brings balance into my life. For example, using past topics we have covered in the newsletter, my list may look something like this:
1. January – Focus my personal energy on the entire self- improvement journey, not on just the goals I want to reach.
2. February – Surround myself with people who validate my connection to Mind, Body and Spirit, and spend less time with those who do not.
3. March - Listen from the inside out, by paying attention to the voice of my intuition which speaks to me through my gut feelings and sleep dreams.
4. April – Understand that my sensitivity is a gift, and find ways to cultivate it as time goes on.
5. May – Be aware of the bigger picture of my spirituality and see how that picture is tied in with my daily experiences.
6. June – Remember that twenty percent of my knowledge and behavior when properly applied, gives me eighty percent of the positive results I experience.
7. July - Recognize that the tone of my thoughts, feelings and actions will always be reflected back at me through my environment, health and relationships.
8. August - Use my intellect to strategize rather than self-criticize.
9. September - Drop any regrets from the past which no longer have any place in my current environment.
10. October – Work with my dreams of departed friends and relatives by finding ways to honor the role they have played my life.
11. November - Reflect on the fact that it isn’t the roads I have traveled in life that defines who I am. Instead, it is the companions I have traveled on those roads with, and the lessons learned from knowing them.
12. December - During the holiday season, keep my awareness open for opportunities to give and receive gifts from the spirit.
The key here, is to list actions which reflect your personal values in any area of Mind, Body and Sprit. Remember that no matter what you choose, there are no wrong selections here, it is simply a process of using your mind to recognize or create actions which bring you closer to spirit.
